About the Artist

Although Ken Dunker grew up in Detroit, Michigan, he often visited his mother’s family farm near Frankenmuth, Michigan. In 1970 he became an Iowan when he joined the Iowa State University faculty. After retiring from Iowa State University, Ken took a position at the Iowa Department of Transportation in the Office of Bridges and Structures, where he is involved in design policy and engineering. In 2001, after fulfilling a request for drawings of an Ames, Iowa church building for bulletin covers, Ken began drawing historic Iowa bridges. Since then Ken has taken several of the Iowa Barn Foundation’s tours and now enjoys drawing barns as well as other structures.
